A 70-year-old beggar from Ambivli was heartbroken when his “earnings”—three gunny bags filled with notes and coins in the denominations ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 50—turned to ash after his hut in Lahuji Nagar slums caught fire early on Wednesday. The police said that it is difficult to estimate the monetary loss as the beggar, Mohammed Rehman, had not counted the money that he had kept hidden from his wife, Fatima (75), in the gunny bags.
Around 3am, Fatima was alone at home when a candle fell on the floor and the hut caught fire. Rehman was in Kasara at the time of the incident. video: India tv
